Abstract

The article presents an analysis of the leading Russian expert on U.S. history Vladimir Sogrin’s new book, “USA in the 20-the-21 st Centuries: Liberalism. Democracy. Empire” and of the problems raised in it. Using the book as a point of departure the author examines coexistence of these three fundamental factors of American history from the early 20th century to the present. A special attention is being paid to the interaction of empire and democracy. The article also analyses Vladimir Sogrin’s concepts and a contribution of his book to the current historiography.
