This is the review of the collection of articles «Africa. History and historians», edited by Academician A.B.Davidson. Published work is an attempt to explain the phenomenon of the birth of African historical thought and its national branches in their conflict and interaction with the Western historical tradition. The relevance of the book is determined by the fact that complex historical experience of the «Dark Continent» in overcoming tribal and ethnic conflicts is now of interest to many countries.
