Abstract
Herod's water systems exemplifi ed the highest and latest accomplishment of the management of water resources in the ancient Kingdom of Israel (tenth to fi rst century BCE) and allowed the massive organization of the water supply under harsh, arid climate conditions. The article relies on field observations in 2007 and 2009, as well as the existing literature in Hebrew, Russian, and English, to explore the history of these ancient water supply systems.
