Abstract
The article is devoted to the classification of the main theoretical and methodological directions of the sociology of professions. The transition to the market and the increase in opportunities for upward mobility of professional groups led to an interest in finding adequate theoretical analysis schemes. The focus is on the works of Western sociologists, which can complement and enrich the domestic research of professionals. Professional groups are considered as institutions that provide a normative social order, and as corporate actors that can monopolize market advantages in their own favor. It is shown that the conceptual framework of the Western sociology of professions can be adapted to study the phenomenon of professionalization in Russia.
