Abstract
The PRC policy toward ethnic minorities is analyzed by the authors in comparison with that of the Russian Federation. The national composition, history of the formation of autonomous regions in China, as well as measures taken by the Chinese government to accelerate socio-economic development of the autonomous regions have been considered. The factors that influence the consolidation and disintegration of the ethnically diverse population of. China are given. The practical importance of the Chinese experience in ethnic minorities policy for Russia is noted.
