- The article is devoted to the role of the communist party in the process of Chinese modernization. The author stresses a continuity of the political process, its historical roots and specific features in the development of China during 60 years. Political reforms in China are divided into several stages: 1950-1970's; the end of 1970's - 1980's; 1990's - 2002; from the XVI Party Congress up to nowadays.
