Abstract
On the basis of domestic and British archival documents, the article reveals the true role of Ghanaian President Kwame Nkrumah in the Congolese crisis. His strategy was to maneuver between the USSR and the US in order to get the maximum funds from both superpowers to the conceived by him accelerated industrialization of Ghana. The plans for “Africanization” of the settlement of the crisis, the creation of the African Command, widely propagated by the Nkrumah, were not the fundamental constants of its Congolese policy, but the subject of bargaining in negotiations with the USSR and the United States.
