Abstract
The article examines the desire of the European powers to achieve a strategic equilibrium aimed at ensuring that no country can achieve superiority over others. The author notes that the Congress of Vienna was able to solve this problem. Victory won by Russia in the war against Napoleon, contributed to a significant increase in its international prestige and strengthening its position in Europe. The period that followed the Congress of Vienna became the apogee of the influence of Russia, which considerably expanded its borders, on European affairs. It played one of the leading roles in the “Vienna System”, the essence of which was the maintenance of the balance of forces on the continent, the creation of a “European concert” of the great powers.
