Abstract

The article analyzes the role of negotiations and agreements concluded betweendifferent groups of the national elite in the weakening of the regime of A. Pinochetand the beginning of the process of transition to democracy in Chile. The authornotes the importance of such factors as: the activity of the democratic opposition, civilsociety, party leaders, as well as the importance of the political tradition of the country,in which the conclusion of multilateral compromises was a tool to maintain a peacefulway out of the conflict, to outline ways to overcome the political division in the future.The article also examines contemporary issues related to the frustration of the part ofsociety in the political results.
