- Abstract
Arctic is a region rich with natural resources. In a long-term perspective due to melting of ice Asia-Europe trade routes will expand. These factors can turn Arctic into an arena of political confrontation. Among other countries the U.S. will inevitably take part in this confrontation. This article is about first actions of Trump administration in military policy towards Arctic region. Obama administration program documents on Arctic military policy still active during the first years of D. Trump presidency. These documents contain goals and objectives of military policy towards Arctic. Trump administration closely monitors actions of Russia and China in Arctic, and new program documents on Arctic policy could be about addressing challenges from other great powers in this part of the world. The author examines role of Alaska in the U.S. military policy, plans of regional military infrastructure enlargement, and renewing of the U.S. icebreaker flotilla. Recently held Arctic maneuvers were focused on combat tasks rehearsal (including cooperation with the U.S. allies) more than it had been during previous years.
