Abstract

The article is devoted to the study of the phenomenon of American musical instrumentalism of famous American composers of the twentieth century. G. Cowell, L. Harrison, J. Cram and J. Cage in his historical-cultural, philosophical-aesthetic and proper musical conditioning, as well as defining his role in the process of updating the sound resources of the art of the XX century. Along with this, the connection between the radical ideas of American composers and the works and ideas of European composers A. Schoenberg, P. Bulez, E. Warez, and others, which are the basis for subsequent theoretical and instrumental musical innovations in the American avantgarde, is traced. American musical experimentalism embodied the phenomenon of "marginal music", in which, relying on certain traditions, a "selective technical canon" was developed (TV Adorno). At the same time, the peculiarity of this phenomenon is the fact that the ideas embodied in it, overcoming regional limitations, occupied avantgarde positions in the musical art of the next generation of musicians. The sound discoveries of experimentalism directly or indirectly indicate the perspective of new forms of sound creation of musical culture of the second half of the twentieth century, including music for percussion, a sonoristic interpretation of piano, a tutorial minimalist technique, a performance by J. Cage, etc.
