Abstract

This article looks at two publications devoted to different aspects of Canadian foreign policy. Interpretation of Canada’s role and power in international politics has traditionally been one of the key areas of Canadian scientific thought. Currently, there are various schools and directions of foreign policy studies in Canada, while think tanks and academic departments at universities received recognition in the country and abroad. The both books are written by well-known Canadian experts and researchers. One publication is the fourth edition of widely used textbook “The Politics of Canadian foreign policy” written by professors Kim R. Nossal, Stéphane Roussel, and Stéphane Paquin. The other one is a part of the newly established book series, “Canada among the Nations”. The two editions highly complement each other: the first identifies long-term trends and factors that determine the development of Canada's foreign policy. And the second is like a momentary "slice" of the international activities of J. Trudeau government during two years, and therefore can rather be interesting in the short term. A reader can find many unknown facts, new sources and original assessments, some of which are not always possible to unconditionally agree.
