Аннотация
У Плутарха, Цицерона и схолиаста из Боббио говорится, что цензор 65 г. до н.э. Марк Красс попытался внести законопроект об аннексии Египта, но из-за сопротивления оптиматов у него ничего не вышло. Однако Светоний пишет, что египетского командования добивался в этом году Цезарь. Согласно самой распространенной на сегодняшний день точке зрения, Красс сам рассчитывал получить это назначение, а Цезарь выступал лишь в качестве его младшего союзника и на египетское командование надеяться не мог; сообщение же Светония рассматривается как ошибочное. В статье заново рассмотрены все свидетельства и сделан вывод, что получить египетское командование должен был именно Цезарь, а не Красс. Также предлагается и обосновывается более точная датировка этого эпизода концом 65 г. или самым началом 64 г.
