Abstract

The article is devoted to development of the health system in Brazil and itscurrent state in the context of social inequality overcoming. Evolution of the institute ofhealthcare, according to the authors, is one of the important factors that allow reducingthe level of inequality in modern society. The social history of Brazil is a clearconfirmation of this thesis. Special attention is paid to the current stage of healthdevelopment in Brazil, whose beginning is associated with the reforms of democraticgovernments after the dismantling of the military regime. The authors seek to show howthe creation of the National Health System (Sistema Unico de Saude, SUS) could affectthe problem of social inequality in Brazil.
